Letter 5 - January, slowly

Dear you,

I came back to Oslo on the first of January, without really knowing how this month would unfold. Everyone here keeps telling me : “just wait until you see the winter”, which, I have to admit, made me a little bit scared.

December was very dark and rainy but somehow I didn’t mind it much. It was also festive, full of lights and warmth, and that made everything softer. ✨

I’m writing these words on the 9th of January and it has been snowing almost every day since then. Not a lot of snow, just enough to give the city a delicate white coat.

And to me, snow defines an entire feeling : peaceful, dreamy, quietly happy.

It makes everything feel different.

Streets, gardens, trees, houses : all transformed, as if the city had decided to slow down too.

And then there is that sound, when you walk on snow. That soft crisp under your feet.

It always creates something inside of me. It reminds me how lucky I am to live this life.

It reminds me that nature really is everything.

I live a little outside of Oslo’s city centre, where the snow settles a bit more.

Every afternoon, I watch children pulling their sledges, laughing, falling, getting back up, enjoying winter exactly as it is.

There is something very inspiring about Norwegians : they go outside. All the time. No matter the season, no matter the weather. They simply step out and enjoy what nature has to offer.

Before the end of winter, there is one thing I promised myself I would do : go on a snowy hike on a sunny day, find the perfect spot and make a proper snow angel. Yes ! I want to be five again for a moment.

And if you decide to do the same… please, let’s exchange pictures and rate our winter artworks ❄️

And so, January continues : slow, white and full of small wonders..

Sending warm thoughts from the North,

Camille
